How do I submit my book?
Send an email with the title, author, and publisher to contact@bit-o-lit.com. We will follow up shortly.

What excerpts do we publish?
All fiction. Political, historical, and cultural non-fiction. Poetry.

What excerpts are best for Bit o' Lit?
All books can benefit from Bit o' Lit; however, we feel that the following books have the most to gain:

  1. Local authors or authors on tour (We advertise their events in the magazine.)
  2. New Authors
  3. Books tailored to the D.C. market
  4. Authors and books trying to transcend a particular niche with a great excerpt

How many fiction and non-fiction excerpts do we publish per issue?
Three to four fiction and one to two non-fiction. Three to five excerpts per issue.

What excerpts do we not publish?
Books not in English. Vanity fiction. Porn. Bad books by anyone. Also, at this time we do not have the resources to publish books by self-published authors. Our local campaigns require books that have distribution in most local bookstores. Finally, for books covering sensitive topics, we require a more in-depth review process.

How much does it cost to feature my book in Bit o’ Lit?
We try to keep rates as close to an at-cost per page rate for authors and publishers as possible. At this time, that rate is just under $140.00 per page for 16,000 copies in circulation. Please email to confirm the issue's rate.

How long can my excerpts be?
4-8 pages, with flexibility.

Will you review my book?
The only book reviews we do concern Lit to Flick, which features reviews of a soon-to-be-released movie and the book that inspired it.

Do I necessarily have to have my excerpt published on the web?
No, but we encourage it. Our website allows readers with weakened vision to adjust the text size, which is especially important given the smaller size of the print in the digest. It also allows blind readers using text-reading scanners to access the page. Besides ensuring accessibility for the greatest number of people, this also ensures that you get the most bang for your buck when advertising with Bit o’ Lit.
