The “plot pyramid” as it is called, describes the typical arc of the story, in which characters are introduced, conflict occurs, and a resolution is—or is not—found.
Exposition: Start of the plot introducing characters with dialogue, description
Red Herring: False lead in a plot, especially a mystery
Cliff Hanger: Story with no resolution; “It leaves you hanging.”
Denouement: Final resolution to the intricacies of the plot
